Costa Rica is rich in biodiversity and almost a quarter of the country comprises protected forests and reserves. It is believed that cocoa beans once grew wild in the Costa Rican rainforest.
Our Costa Rican origin chocolates are made using cocoa beans which have been sourced from a Rainforest Alliance Certified farm. Certification ensures that production and farming methods are balanced against the needs of the local ecosystem, and protect his soil, rivers and wildlife.
Certification also helps farmers achieve better prices for their cocoa, and improve the quality of their products, through more efficient farm management. The certification programme helps them organise, plan & shedule improvements, implement better working practices, identify problems and monitor progress.
Workers on certified farms are hired to manage plots and benefit from a good salary, a home for their family, clean water & sanitation, and a safe environment. They have access to schools, healthcare, transportation and training, which overall has an extremely positive impact onmorale and well-being.
The rainforest Alliance is an international non-profit organisation which aims to protect ecosystems and the people and wildlife that depend on them, by transformingland use practices, business practices and consumer behaviour.
